Mavic Clone STL Files Version 4.1 F3
« on: February 16, 2017, 06:23:41 PM »
PLEASE NOTE - THE STL FILES ARE IN THE DOWNLOAD SECTION. YOU NEED TO BE A MEMBER AND LOGGED IN TO SEE THIS SECTION

UPDATED TO 4.1 F3 .. 23rd April 2017 - added double plungers to front legs / shared parts with Naza build
(shared parts now are Top front, Middle, Nose, Gimbal holder)

UPDATED TO 4.0 F3 .. 8th March 2017 - Improved legs / added ball plungers

Added holes for the plungers in the base
Added 4mm ball holes in the middle + increased the thickness of the rear wings to 4mm
Added 7mm holes to the front arms & lowered the wire channel increasing the strength
Added 4mm dimples to the rear arms and lowered the wire channel increasing the strength
Removed the notch from the top

Build now updated with ball plungers which are 6mm wide x 7mm depth.  I purchased mine off eBay. They are part number GN614-6KD ( http://r.ebay.com/7qtSCD )

UPDATED TO 3.1 F3 .. 24th Feb 2017 - Improved top plates

Some details on the components used.

Copy Mavic props 8330 off eBay - 9 (hopefully I can print an adaptor plate)

WS2812B 2*2 4-Bit Full Color 5050 RGB LED off eBay - 2.50 (some indicator led's for the back I hope depending on the FC)

Multistar LiHV High Capacity 3000mAh 3S off Hobbyking - 14.79  (got two of these..)

Black Widow 2208 1200KV With Built-In ESC off Hobbyking - 12.21 each (on offer as these are V1 and V2 are now out.. however I think they will be fine.)  I went for these because of the built in ESC as space will be tight and they will help with any possible heat issues. I might however need to widen the holes in the legs... we shall see. (was 1800kv but swapped to 1200kv)

Deluxe SP Racing F3 Flight Controller 10DOF Integrated OSD - 22.00 from Amazon UK - http://amzn.eu/7hBUcDL

NZ Super Mini Ublox 7 GPS - 13 off ebay - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/DigitalCure

Mini 50A DalRC Power Distribution Board Hub PDB BEC - 4.25 ebay - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RCTech-Store

FrSky DR4-II - 20 ish.. cant remember

You will also need some screws, bits of wire and lots and lots of luck ;-)

Diagram for wiring it all up

The build is quote straight forward, not that many body components really. I've posted some photos below which should help. :-)

Thanks,

Steve

First, I would print all the parts out. I've started to swap over to ABS as it's a little more flexible and I seem to be getting a better finish.

The nose / rear feet should be in black, the rest in dark grey. OR whatever you fancy :-)  Most parts I've printed in 30%.. but the legs I'm now up to 70% for strength.

The front feet need to be added before the motors, you also need to pin them with a bit of 1.75mm filament to stop them twisting.

I've also used a bit of filament to make a hinge for the catch at the back.

To make the LED window I've cut up an old milk container and doubled up on the plastic, you can just slot these into place.

When fitting the motors I cut the small black wire as this isn't needed. The motors I am using have built in ESC's  I needed to extend the servo signal wire so it reached the FC at the front.

I also extended the power cables in the front legs. I used some 20AWG Silicone Wire which should be thick enough for the amps.. ( I hope ).. :-)

The nose holds the GPS and RX.. there are two tiny holes to pass the rx wires down either side. You can see this in the above photo.

Once all the bits are in you cover everything up with a nice battery base..

... then enjoy

I'm still working on mine, so please have a look at my build diary as well as others on here.

Hi Euronext08,

Many thanks for your comments. I should get the naza m lite finished this weekend. I've not looked at the 6 batteries yet.

Cheers

Mavic Clone battery

I'm wondering about the battery capacity--the Multistar are 10C, 20 burst, so you can draw 30 amps constant. Is that enough? The Black Widows have 18 Amp ESCs--not going to be WFO all the time, but...

Hi Fultonmartin,

Welcome to the forums. Yes you're right 30 amp continuous.. 60 amp burst.  Honest answer is I'm not sure.  I picked the battery as it was the highest capacity for the smallest size. The motors I do think are slightly over spec'd I think. The thrust they can deliver from what I've read is alot more than needed really. I do feel that they can be dailed back a bit on the FC max throttle setting.

Time will tell :-). Any help or advice on this would be most helpful, I'm defo not an expert at this at all!

Guess I'll get one of the Multistars, as well as a Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 30C, which is almost exactly the same physical size.

Thanks Phospherus for the kind comments and the donation :-) I'm saving up for a new transmitter at the moment so it will go towards that.. or a set of motors for another mavic build, not sure which yet :-)

I've added you a title to the forum of Elite DIY RC Supporter.. :-)  It's a bit like a knighthood..  Arise Sir Phospherus.. lol

Thanks again.

Hopefully the Naza verson will be finished soon.. I think I've nearly done but want to test print the base / middle / rear foot / nose first.

Hi Steve

Do you think a Naza M V2 will fit in there?
Is it still possible to flash the Lite to V2 specs, I heard that the new ones it wasn't possible, also does it do the same as a V2 when flashed or do you lose some options?

Cheers

Tony

Functions just like a V2. Not sure on the flashing of the newer stock on the Naza M.

Hi Trafgg, not sure about a new one. The version I got was secondhand for 40. Although I had a hell of a time getting the DJI drivers to install on windows 10. I had to in the end boot up in test mode and install them as they are not digitally signed :-(

Windows 7 managed to install them first time... just a heads up. There was a video on youtube showing you how to install the drivers which I followed, after that it flashed great. I would be happy to help if your struggling now I've got everything installed.

LED holder finished.. just got to print it all out now :-)  Then only the nose gps to do.. then release :-)

Oh.. and you should be able to program it when its installed as I've left a cut out for the usb.. :-)

Starting to print my copy out at the moment, and plan on buying the parts soon. Anyone put any thought into using 4 in 1 escs, and also maybe using 2212 sized motors? Can pick up a 4 in 1 esc such as this (http://www.banggood.com/Racerstar-RS20Ax4-20A-4-in-1-Blheli_S-Opto-ESC-2-4S-Support-Oneshot42-Multishot-for-FPV-Racer-p-1068210.html?rmmds=search) for fairly cheap. 2212 motors by the same company can be bought fairly cheaply too. Was also hoping to use a pixhawk on my build which should make GPS stuff easier, also hoping to be able to mount my gimbal from the same site (http://www.banggood.com/FPV-2-Axis-Brushless-Gimbal-With-Controller-For-DJI-Phantom-GoPro-3-p-908068.html?rmmds=search).

EDIT: I know you've designed this with a naze/spf3racing in mind but the pixhawk has the same sized mount holes internally meaning if its decased with a bit of editing it looks like it should be possible.
