I bought those racerstar 2212 motors, they fit OK, and look cool being red. I also bought 4 small ESC but couldn't fit them and the battery in the shell, maybe that 4 in 1 ESC/PDB would be a good way to go. You could perhaps mount it vertically at the front. Horizontally stacked standard PDB and FC won't fit with a 2200 battery.

That gimbal weighs 230g, surely that would mess with the COG too much.

From my experience COG isn't anywhere near as important as it is with fixed wing aircraft, might not be quite as efficient but still works. Would probably take the thing apart and 3d print something a bit different which would hopefully get rid of a bit of the weight.

Hi Jmta94,  Welcomes to the forums fella :-)  That gimbal is massive.. its nearly as big as the mavic. I have one somewhere I purchsased for my 450 I built a few years ago. I'll see if I can dig it out and grab a photo for you.

I'm still looking for a gimbal, not crossed that bridge yet as I wanted to get it flying first.. hoping tomorrow might be the day, its been raining all day today sadly.

The last few days I've been obsessed with camcorders. I've now purchased 3 in so many days!  Each time going up in value.. so I will sell the first two for a profit I'm hoping which should help pay for the 4k one I've ended up just getting.. Expect some decent build videos now! Told the wife it's for the holiday to Florida in April.. shhhhhh

There is a 2 axis gimbal on thingiverse that has been designed for a mavic, or rather a " foldable drone frame" Is it okay to post links here? I'll post a link to it and see what ya'll think of it, if it will fit or not.

Damn hadn't put 2 and 2 together and realised that the gimbal was that big and the mavic so small. Was hoping to mount my old go pro but suspecting a session would be a better match to something this size, was surprised to see the session for 150 in argos. Looking forward to the build videos, even if I can't get a use for one flying would still like to build one up as a model.

Suspect this is the one (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2037525) Looks good and adaptable, taking the sensor out of a runcam and moving the main system out of the gimbal is an interesting idea.

Righty o. I found this mini gimbal a few days ago, it is not mine, I am just posting to get ya'll's thoughts on it. It may work with your design and it may not. There is also a video of it working on his foldable drone frame.

So what is the recommended GPS everyone is going with, I went originally with the Super Mini NZ GPS that was in the first post, but looking at other threads and rebuilds, it looks like it has been re-designed for a puck now?  Just trying to get parts together.  I am sure what I ordered won't go to waste, just want to make sure I get the proper stuff for this build.  Also do we have a link for the Power Distribution board that you are recommending?  Want to make sure to get the proper one.

Thanks,

Chad

Hi Chad,

I went with the recommended GPS. I bought this one.
And this here is the power distribution board I went with.

Thanks, what I ordered for the GPS as well, just didn't know if the STL's changed the design.  I haven't printed anything yet till things are for sure set and I get all my parts in.  Thanks for the links.  I will get the PDB on order.

Hi Hoochster, I'm still using that :-) The other STL's (Naza build) are for the DJI Naza flight controller which comes with its own LED / GPS / BEC (power board).. hence the different design for that.

I'm still concentrating on the F3 build at the moment. Going to test again this weekend if the weathers good. The PIDS on the FC were set far to high when I tried last week. I'll share all the values and how I set it all up in the build video I'll be doing.

I've got another project to finish which I need to get done by the end of April.. so not long and that's lots of work!

That makes more sense, thanks for clarifying my confusion there haha.  See, even more reason to just go with the Pixracer and call it a day! ;)  LOL

And ya, looking forward to full setup information etc if you are able to provide.  I have been out of the hobby for so long that I am gonna have to brush up on how to do all this again heh.  I think I have some kits sitting in a box and some Naze32 FC's I might just have to play with just to brush up my memory heh.  Been way too long since I have flown, gotta stop that.

I've been looking for 3 axis gimbals that would fit beneath the Mavic Clone, but with the limited space, the options seem to be very slim.
The only one I've found that MIGHT fit (I'm not even sure) is this one:

Does anyone have any other suggestions, or will we need to find a custom 3d printed design?

I haven't ever ordered a Sonar board yet, what one does everyone use/recommend?  Something else I can go ahead and get on order with my other parts.

Thanks.
