Can you make some recommendations for a handheld controller or is this flown using smartphone interface?

FrSky QX7 is a good, affordable Radio for such vehicles.

Yes, the Taranis qx7 is a good low cost option. Another decent low cost option might be a FlySky FS-i6 along with a X6B receiver. In general I think that FrSky has better receivers, but FlySky has been improving. I own an original Taranis X9D so maybe I'm just a little biased in favor of FrSky  ;)

I just read the specs about the X6B receiver and it's a good one but i can't you the failsafe feature since it's only for PWM and i want to use the PPM or iBUS in order to avoid the mess too many wires. What's a good alternative for Flysky controllers?

I thought there was a fix for that. (No failsafe on the iBUS). But maybe I misunderstood. I don't currently own a FlySky transmitter anyway.
The only other budget option (besides FrSky) might be the Turnigy 9X.
