Love it. Im gonna print one right now and shove a Eagle tree vector inside this puppy. Might have to tweak the STL to fit the vector but Im gonna get this done. Once printed I will provide a updates on progress and pictures. Gonna use the mini vector

Hi Ryan,

Great, what size is the mini vector? It's just that the F3 design might suit better.. but if you need anything changing just let me know.

I would love to do one for the pixracer but they don't want to send me one.. lol

So, I have built a few of the FliteTest Quads and Tri's, so I have some experience, but not tons.  Been out of the hobby for about a year now, just been tooooo busy with kids.  But recently got a 3D Printer and have drooled over the Mavic, but just think it is out of my price range for now haha.  So stumbled upon your stuff, mainly from FliteTest first.  And so far I am drooling over your stuff haha.  My question to you is, I am familiar with the Naza M Lite's and the Pixhawks and such, and my understanding is the Pixracer is a newer compact version of the Pixhawk.  What I don't know is it supposed to be superior to the Naza M Lite?  I don't have enough knowledge about flight controllers to know that.  I only really have experience with Naze32's.  If that is really the FC you are wanting to go for, and truly get this to be closest to a Mavic Clone, I imagine we can get donations to get you a Pixracer.  I just want to make sure that it is what you are after?

Thank you so much for all your effort and hard work on this project and other projects.  I am also interested in the Inspire.  I will be looking at that project as well.  Shooting you a donation after this post just for all your efforts.  And will do my best to continue as you keep developing.  I want to start printing, but have been awaiting your final builds to make sure I don't waste things.  I did order props and the RX, figured I couldn't go wrong there.  Am awaiting ordering the rest to see what you end up with haha.  Having a real hard time finding Grey filament though ha.  Might end up just doing different colors like some others have done.  Like black body and red arms or something.

Thanks again,

Hoochster

WOW.. Thanks Hoochster for the donation, it will defo go into the Pixie fund :-)  I think you're quite safe with the motors, I've just ordered another set but 1200kv Blackwindow ones with built in ESC's from Hobbyking.. The lipo battery wont change either although I might try the lion.. or whatever they are called.

To answer your questioned I think the Pixracer is more configurable and suits the mavic more but I know that my previous Naza FC's have been really good and just work.

I really struggled finding dark grey and in the end just order it from Amazon at 15 a roll. They do a matching ABS too which should come in a few days :-)

Again thanks for the donation, I've added you the title of Elite DIY RC Supporter, if we did t-shirts I would send you one.. lol but we don't so tough!... lol   arise Sir Hoochster ;-p

I actually tried to order the dang motors and the batteries but HK's site was fubarred at the time and wouldn't let me select US for the Country.  It let me select City and State lol.  But not the Country haha.  Go figure.  Will have to try again.  I do like the idea of the motors with the built in ESC's cleaner build.  I will try again on those, and look at the 1200kv.  I think I had a hard time finding the power distribution board as well will try and find it again.  And you didn't have a link to the sonar board you used.  I know you haven't completed your instructions yet, so was just pre-ordering what I could in electronics since a lot comes from China etc and takes forever to get here.  I did order the GPS but I think you might have switched to a disc one.  So might have to order another.  No biggie.

On the ABS, like I said I am new to 3D Printing, had it a few weeks now.  Been printing with it non stop though haha.  But buddy of mine that is a long timer highly recommended I stick with Sainsmart and Hatchbox Filaments, so have been trying.  And that's probably why I am having a hard time finding it.  I assume it is probably safe to branch out a little.

Thanks for the title, totally unnecessary, I just really appreciate people like you that have the skill and like to share with the public.  I can put things together and do things like that, but don't have the design skill heh.  So it is very much appreciated when someone like you helps the public.

On the Pixracer, ya I don't know what is best, I just want the stability and capability.  Only have the Naze32 experience, and just started playing with the iNav firmware before I took a break and it was getting better, but still nowhere near the capability of some of the higher end FC's out there.  I don't mind spending a little more on a good FC for a project like this if it is going to give us the capability we are after.  But if the Naza M Lite will do that, it is def a nice box fit FC.

For this size I had never had good experience with Naza M on 250 size quads.  The think the smaller KV motors are outside the range of control.  I could never get it locked in.  However I will try again with the DJI snail motors/ESC and maybe I will have more success being a DJI product.  Anyone test a Naza on this size?

I have a big request. Big in more than one way. After printing out the Naza version files, I've come to the realization that there just isn't enough room for the Naza gear, other electronics, and gimbal stuff.

I also printed this Mavic clone before finding yours:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2004357

It is about 1.5" longer than yours and proportionally larger in all dimension but has issues with fit and assembly.

Here's the big request. Any way you could redraw the Naza version in a larger overall frame size? Maybe make the top front part with a recess for the GPS puck or at least make it a shell tor more electronics space?

Thanks.

Hi Speedydad,

That is a big ask.. lol it would require every part to be redesigned, although the simplest way would be to just scale up the parts. The only problem doing this is that all the wall thickness scale up too.

I think half the fun is getting it all to fit. Which electronics are you struggling with? The naza I've got has more room left than the F3 really.

I would be happy to do it for you but it's not a simple overnight job.  Possibly 30 hours plus?  A designer would charge at least 600 for this service and a cheap one at that. Lol

So my first question is what items do you want to fit on it? Motors / battery etc.. what sort of room would you require?

I've yet to design the gimbal / fpv stuff but my vtx came just before I left and it's tiny! I mean really small. It's a vtx03 eachine.. was found by a member on here.  Photo attached. Also, on the Naza design you might of seen the four screw holes at the front once it's together. That's for a alexmos 2 axis gimbal board.. I've not got one yet to fit but that's where it should go. So the only bit left is an osd and this could fit down the side as they are tiny.

Anyway, let me know the parts. Also, I would like to completely finish the design / gimbal etc before starting the bigger version so not to delay other builders.

Thanks

Steve

Maybe you are correct. I just need to be patient while you finish yours.

BTW - scaling up isn't a simple answer. All mount locations would be incorrect.

SpeedyDad, have a look at my build. If you remove the GPS from the puck there is enough room to sit it on top of the square GPS mount.

Hi, great work Steve, I've been looking at Mavik for a long time, but the price .., saw your project and was very happy. Thank you for the possibility to try mavic in the case. I will certainly support the project in the near future.
