02/10/2017 UPDATE:

V1 Files Release:

Front Top
Back Top
Sketchup File

END OF UPDATE. ORIGINAL POST BELOW:

So I started making another top set so the build would resemble the mavic a little better. Ive gotten the part roughly designed and am printing it out right now to see if the back top piece still slides in easily.

If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask! Ill release the STL files once I get rid of all the errors/make it as accurate as I can.

UPDATE:

I had doubts the back plate would lock into place because of the added thickness, but after a bit of filing, it fits super snug.

I actually edited the plate as it was printing, and I have a v2 on the way. I'll upload V1 when I get back from classes tomorrow. (24 hrs after this is posted)

Heres a peek at v2 so far, not much has changed except the roundness of the entire whole.

Wow very very nice :-). I'm going to have to add this myself. Great job!

What depth of the M3 inserts are you using so I can go and order a bag? From what I've seen you can get them in 3mm and up.  I'm assuming you're going to stick a black button on it?

Again, great job.

Steve

Im pretty sure im using16mm screws, but that barely fits. 18mn would work much better. I dont plan on putting a button there tho, purely asthetic lol

Hi,

Sorry not the screw length, the insert length.. the bit you screw into? I'm assuming you press this into the underneath of the top?

Thanks

Hi 12382

Great work there.

Any chance of posting a V2 file that I could import into Sketchup. I would like to experiment putting a recess in the top to allow the battery to sit up higher giving a bit more room inside for the electronics. Even a few mm would help I think. Or maybe put the vtx in there.

Cheers

Tony

That would be great, thanks.

With regard to broken stl files have you tried the Microsoft repair site. Just login with a Microsoft account or register and upload the file and it fixes it for printing. I get a lot of errors in Sketchup but if I run it through the site it fixes it and it's free.

https://tools3d.azurewebsites.net/

Only trouble is it gives it a 3mf extension which won't import to Simplyfy3d so I have to convert it to stl with Spin 3D mesh converter but that's free as well.

If I ever get broken stl's I run them through netfabb online ( https://service.netfabb.com/service.php ) . Works great.  :-)

Hi Steve

Just tried it, brill. It downloads as stl so no need to convert it back. Bloody Microsoft trying to force their proprietary formats on the world.

Cheers

Hi 12382

The links direct me to porn and malware sites, any chance of uploading to something safer like Dropbox etc?
