Small RC/TX
« on: June 26, 2017, 04:34:55 PM »
Hi there!

I was always wondering about those RCs/TX . I could imagine that some many years ago the electronics werent so integrated and small like its nowadays. So the RCs/TX were big and clunky. We know what DJI was capable of building regarding the TX for the MAVIC and I think why all the remotes which you can buy are so clunky and big. I mean I get thet all the triggers and buttons need space but why does 80% space in these remotes contain nothing but air. So why isn't there any good compact-sized RX Solution for hobbyists?

Maybe it's possible to ripp out all the electronics from a Taranis Plus or somewhat and cram it into a diy enclosure which fits the neat looking DiY Mavic Pro Builds . Or maybe there will be a RC released which will address this "Need" .

:) ...

Greetings from Germany

I will make small Mavic like RC TX for my Inspire build but I'm not sure about fitting full-size electronics in small housing . So, I'm going to do using Arduino and if I succeed I'll write about it

Hi there. The best way to mimic Mavic controller would be to use those boards from 3DR:
https://store.3dr.com/products/solo-link-im6-board
https://store.3dr.com/products/controllerlink-board

Unfortunatelly there is not much information how to connect them. For solo link board you can guess it but for controllerlink - it is pure magic and no documentation.

The other alternative is to use Turnigy Evolution radio and redesign it's body:

I just stumbled over the TBS Tango some days ago.
It is pretty expensive but supports all Protocols if you add the right Module and it includes a Screen and RX for FPV flying so no additional monitor, phone or Goggles needed.

Nice find, but really expensive! If there would be something in the 100 range I would consider buying it but over 200$ Im not convinced!

So all of you who are looking for a small TX: FrSky released their FrSky Taranis X-LITE TX. It looks similar to an Xbox One Controller and it is really small compared to the clunky RC Remotes which are looking like devices from the 80s.

IO think that TX will be the best companion for the self build Mavics. And I think I will buy one becauso I don't want to carry my Taranis Plus every time with me when traveling.

Here the link to banggood. but it's still not available for order.
