Mavic 4.1 F3 build in Flower Mound, TX
« on: August 03, 2018, 08:56:00 PM »
I have a friend who has the real deal Mavic Pro and it is quite awesome. Since my wife would straight up divorce me if I tried to buy one I found this one Thingiverse and decided that I'd like to build one. While my RC skills do involve building and flying fixed-wing, heli and quad models I am a much better fixed-wing pilot than the latter two. I decided to go with the F3 version as I am more familiar with the OpenFlight/BetaFlight platform.

I printed the parts in black ABS and yellow PLA+ as it is what I had on-hand. After completing this build and testing I may reprint everything in PETG. I didn't document each part's slicer settings but I used .1 and .2 layer heights and 30% and 70% infills in Simplify3D. My printer has a 300 x 300mm build surface but I printed out the split-middle version after reading some of the other builds.

I also like the addition of the power button and LEDs to the top. Can anyone provide a link to the build that shows how this was wired?

The electronics I ordered and are as follows:
Received - CL Racing F4S Flight Controller PDB OSD AIO
Received - DYS F20A 4-in-1 ESC BLHeli_S Dshot
Received - Gemfan 9443 (9x4.3) Self-Tightening Propellers (2-CW 2-CCW)
Received - Readytosky 2212 920KV Brushless Motor (2-CW 2-CCW)
Received - HC-05 BlueTooth module
Received - HC-SR04 Sonar module
Waiting - Multistar LiHV High Capacity 3000mAh 3S Battery
Waiting - Hobbypower Ublox NEO-M8N GPS Module with Compass
Waiting - FrSky Taranis D4R-II receiver

My hardware list:
6 - 6mm x 7mm Ball Plunger (DxL)
26 - M3 flat washer
15 - M3 nut with loctite or self-locking nut
8 - M3 x 6mm, SHCS (socket head cap screw)
7 - M3 x 25mm, SHCS
2 - M3 x 30mm, SHCS
2 - M3 x 40mm, SHCS
2 - M3 x 45mm, SHCS

I plan on adding a 3-axis gimbal using:
Pending - Storm32 BGC 32Bit 3Axis Brushless Gimbal Controller
Pending - Gimbal motors - Not sure yet. Maybe HobbyKing 2804-210kv Brushless Motor
Pending - RunCam Split v2

Here is the obligatory printed parts assembled picture

I used the ball plungers from Amazon Kipp 03070-306 and they sat too far into the front arms. The CAD files show that the part has a 1mm recess that the plunger should sit in but the plungers I have only have a .5mm flange. Also the plungers fit somewhat loosely. If I tap the arm lightly the bottom ball plunger will fall out. So it could be the tolerance is too large for the plunger hole or my printer is under extruding or maybe a combination of both. I'm going to modify the plunger holes to get a better fit.

Nice!  I am an absolute noob there.

Would you please share how you fit a gimbal to the drone if you finish it?
