Mavic Build - Down Under
« on: October 25, 2017, 01:59:58 PM »
Hi All,

Have been promising my Boys that we would build a drone, so after years of procrastination, we have started :)
So far we have done a bit of printing and some shopping!

Shopping so far (as none of this has been tested yet, it may require some changes along the way!):

Propellers
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/112433105630

Spring Ball Plunger
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/391261163372

Brass Knurled Nuts decided not to use these after all
https://www.banggood.com/100Pcs-M4-x-4mm-Brass-Knurled-Nuts-Insert-Female-Thread-Round-Insert-Embedded-Nuts-p-1184177.html <- got the wrong size - oops!

[getting a selection to see what works best]

Ultrasonic Module HC-SR04

M3 Bolts

M3 Nuts and stuff

Engines

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/black-widow-2204-18a-19d-cw-1900kv.html

Battery

GPS

(unsure if this is compatible with other FCs, so may need to revisit)

RX-F802 receiver - 8 channel
https://www.banggood.com/DIY-RX-F802-8CH-Receiver-for-FRSKY-X9D-X9D-Plus-DJI-DFT-DHT-p-989610.html
(I know it is a little too big, and quite frankly, I have no experience with these things - so may need to revisit)

LEDs

Flight Controller
https://www.banggood.com/Holybro-Kakute-F4-AIO-Flight-Controller-STM32-F405-MCU-Integrated-PDB-OSD-p-1161588.html

We have printed the body but have hit a slight snag with the Gimbal Holder (thx for the fix iRazor) and are waiting for all the shopping to arrive so we can move on to the actual construction phase!

At this point we are still undecided about the flight controller and engines (shopping list updated).

The Boys have decided that while we wait for the shopping to arrive, we should try and create the finish Rickyg32 has on his build.

So there has been much filling, sanding, rinsing, spraying, sanding, rinsing, repeat .. so far, we are pretty happy with the results :)

Cool! Pictures work again (thanks if someone did something to make that work!).

Top complete (though may need to be redone depending on how we attach to the body), body currently in progress - pictures coming soon. Then on to the legs.

Very nice finish with the top. Can't wait to see the whole build when finished.

Old top8c I know but I'm interested how these builds with bondo balance and how much extra weight is added, how did this one turn out?

Another popular way to smooth abs prints is to acetone fog them, I tried it once but melted my part by leaving it unattended too long lol..
