Mavic Build F3 - Big_G
« on: August 05, 2017, 09:53:32 AM »
Figured i'd start off my build diary as i've been going a couple of weeks now. This is all totally new to me so i'm really learning as i go, originally i wanted to buy a Phantom 3 but then thought having never even flew a drone before it was a lot of expense to break, then i came across this site  ;D

I've printed all of the parts out on my Anet A8 and they came out really well, they're printed in PLA for now with high infill for the fragile pieces. The parts were ordered from allover the world, i'm still waiting on the LED board & GPS coming from China ... think they're on a slow boat. Apart from those parts i think i have everything else other than a handset which i haven't decided on (and didn't want to spend an lot of money on). I really struggled getting hold of the correct motors so i ended up with Black Widow 2204 1900kv which i understand will work but you have to be careful not to go full throttle?

Since this is all very very new i'm busy pouring over the build diaries, diagrams, YouTube, etc to figure out how all of this works. I've learned a lot in the past few weeks (even soldering properly, hah) but still have a long long way to go.

So yesterday i moved onto my wiring, i think i have everything where it needs to be now - except for the motors i haven't wired the power for them onto the PDB yet. There's a couple of things i'm having issues with, the Ublox 7 Mini GPS doesnt seem to be detected in Cleanflight. I've enabled it, selected UBLOX as the vendor, then when i go into port configuration and turn on UART2 then save/reboot it just turns the port off again. The GPS light in the top right corner of cleanflight config screen is off as well.
Sonar seems to be working ok, if i got into the sensor screen and tap the sonar unit i get a fluctuation in the readings.
Other issue is when i go into the Battery screen it says connected "no" have i got some wiring incorrect? is that why the GPS isn't connecting? i'm not sure. The green light flickers on the board next to UART2 so i'm assuming it can see the GPS is connected.
I'm also not sure where to connect the vbat connector to?

Very good, the same way I'm starting to get to know about drones, so I decided to enter into this challenge, I began to print my pieces today, I opted for ABS. I also imported some things from China for this project, my biggest question is about the engines, I think I read something saying that some engines would not need the ESC, that engine you bought need? Congratulations on entering the challenge too, we learners have a lot of work ahead of us haha.

Lots learned, lots still to learn!! I also struggled getting the correct motors so bought these https://hobbyking.com/en_us/black-widow-2204-18a-19d-cw-1900kv.html

iNAV will be a better use of that board (I am assuming you don't know this), allows you to have RTH, AH, Auto Land, etc.....Checkout Painless360 on youtube he goes into all the setup and descriptions of iNAV. Looks Great
