Mavic build with DJI parts
« on: December 17, 2018, 10:08:07 AM »
Just started my build but went a different way and have to modify the parts.

I started to print in PLA to test the parts and check what i need to modify. For the first prototype should be fine

In the end i think i will print in PETG or carbon fiber PETG.

So i found on aliexpress the arm with motor, I might buy 4 and give it a spit

I also want to use the Mavic ghimbal it seems is around 100$ with their controller.

Does anyone used them?

I might have to change the mavic brushless controller with a storm 32

Does anyone know if their controller works without their boards?

I'm not sure about FC now, fell free to make suggestions.

Well I always like a good challenge.

The motors should be fine they have 3 wires, any esc should be able to control them easily.
The arms can be fit on the clone with a little Fusion (or any cad program on the body)

The gimbal have the motors if you look on all the pictures you can see the connector and the motor axle.
Gimbals axis are attached by motor axles, so they are there.
So the motors are there, so i'm pretty sure I can use any brushless gimbal controller to move them.

On aliexpress it seems to be multiple options.
One is only the gimbal (aluminium pars with motors) (you will need ribbon cable, camera cable, camera and some plastic covers)
Second is the gimbal with camera, wires and covers
Third is the gimbal with camera, wires, some kind of controller and cover.

I don't want to make a clone with dji parts to have the same performance.

Instead I want to have some fun. And use some good and easy to fit pars.
I really like how small the gimbal and camera are.

Since we are using mavic legs we have to redesign the frame to accomadate them.(also u have to buy a separate part for folding-unfolding front legs, the back legs comes with that part built in.)

I am not pro with fusion, but still trying to learn it as much as possible.
For testing purpose i originally used hot glue and cutted the structure according to need, but that just added unnecessary wate to the back, which resulted in aggresive response to forward motion(idk why but evertime i tried to fly it,it just wanted to go forward instead of upward),i tried it to tune it with PIDS but still not satisfied.

The conclusion i got is that we need to redesign the frame. :'(
Plus if you place gps and vtx togther they wont work, there will be interference. Thus gps must be placed on upper front and vtx on the lower back of mavic(below mavic) :-\
For now i am learning fusion to redesign the frame, but the damn exams keep delaying the process.
Whats your status mate?

If u plan to use camera(i am using runcam split 2)they will come with a stiff wired connection to their circuit board, which makes moving the camera with servos a bit difficult.
Nevertheless i decided to go on without gimbal until i achieve mavic like stability.(in future i may add gimbal by cnc the motors to make em small)
Also can u please share the 3D files. :D
