Mavic clone... And so it begun... (by FoldingLlama)
« on: December 21, 2018, 08:38:34 AM »
Hi all!

Yesterday I finally decided to go for it and start y project on the Mavi Clone.

First of all: a BIG THANK YOU to CdRsKuLL for this site and the design (and off course to all you out there providing valuable information, tips and tricks)!

I will go for the Version 4.1 F3. I downloaded the STL-files and made my first prints (on an Alfawise U20), starting with the middle (although I'm not quite sure about the difference between the STL-files of "middle" and "base middle", but in one of the treads I read the files to print and there "middle" was used, so I went for that").The result seems to be good in my opinion. One of my nicest prints untill now (see the pictures).

I'm also compiling a document with all the parts I'll use. Once finished, I'll upload it. It is, off course, based on the things I read in the tread of CdRsKuLL and the responses you all gave on that.

I know it will be a trail and error (mainly the electronic parts), but that part of the fun  ;)

Thanks for providing me with some feedback and support whenever needed  ::)

Greetings and happy end of the year!

The printing continues. Just having questions on the sonar pieces:
  • the sonar cover seems to be too small as it is less large than the holder. So the holes don't fit...
  • the sonar holder seems to be too wide: the wholes fit the ones of the base, yet I can't get it down completely. It seems to be stuck a little bit above the base, but maybe that will be fine once the sonar is actually fit.

In meanwhile I'm trying to find the right electronic components. I will post the list here once I compiled them, to get some feedback on them.

I read the different treads and I would like some feedback on the electronic parts I would buy. This is what I have in mind at the moment:

Is there anyone here that could tell me if these would work?
Am I missing some parts (besides a solder gun)?

Thanks!

Same motors I've got, they are classed as the cheaper end of the market but they look fine, a lot of people use them.

The sonar are the same as mine, fit the base perfectly but banggood only sent 2, when i complained they refunded the full cost.

The wire I got to extend the motors is this https://m.banggood.com/DANIU-5-Meter-Black-Silicone-Wire-Cable-10121416182022AWG-Flexible-Cable-p-1170293.html I got size 20 and it's right.

Your fist GPS looks too big, the second is a popular one, I've got this one but not tested, https://m.banggood.com/7M8M-M8N-GPS-Module-for-APM-Pixhawk-CC3D-Naze32-F3-Flight-Control-p-1078657.html

I can't comment on your fc, radio or battery as I use different stuff.

Be careful with chargers, check for reviews on rcgroups.

Same props I got, they look good.

Your bolts won't have the longest length needed and personally I would go stainless. The bolts that go through top to bottom are around 60mm on my build but I need to modify the base to fit my 4in1. The f3 version I've printed is the 60mm not including headif you've not modified.

You've not listed any ball plungers, you need 6mm diameter by 7mm long, I got these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BNH11WZ/ref=pe_1909131_77697121_tnp_email_TE_AMZLdp_1

Hope that helps.

Hohoho... Printing Rodolph (the red nose Mavic) is almost finished.

For the catch it is the one from the NAZA compilation you'll need, even when printing the F3-version. All other parts seem to fit fine. for the gimbal you'll need to cut a but off at the shortest parts of the gimbal to make it fit. Also at the rear foot, you'll need to scrape off a little bit to make it fit the holes of the base. But else, everything fits perfectly!

Next part: ordering the electronics  :-\. Luckily this is a hobby. Just hoping not needing to re-buy too many parts multiple times when failing...

M3 x 35 for connecting the body parts? Do you mean the long ones that hold the base to the middle frame?
As I say, measuring mine they look more like 60mm but we could be looking at different parts.

I notice you still haven't mentioned the ball plungers, you need 6 of them 6mm diameter 7mm long.

Kananga, indeed, still need to check that. The plungers are mentioned. Thanks for that!

Sorry, my bad I see them now.
Ive got mine laid out now, I'm going to be updating my thread soon. I'll be able to double check the lengths.
I need to draw and print some new bits for mine before I can assemble it.

Did you go for the runcam split in the end?
It has fpv built in so it's a good option.

Kananga, indeed 60 mm for body parts to assemble (base + middle). Just tried it. I also bought those. I'll adapt my list.

Finally decided on the webcam (after some good discussions with Kananga):

Besides this I also added a lipo bag (http://www.banggood.com/Explosion-Proof-Fire-Proof-Bag-For-Li-Po-Battery-NO_1-3-p-984705.html?rmmds=cart_middle_products) (--> seems perfect for the ordered batteries) and a second spare of prop releases (http://www.banggood.com/Quick-Release-Propeller-Blade-Base-Mount-with-Spring-Screw-for-DJI-MAVIC-PRO-p-1141705.html?rmmds=cart_middle_products)--> these don't work --> you'll need to print an adapter as Kananga made.

Now we need to wait... Fingers crossed  ;)
(Thanks Kananga for the advice)

I got the black recieiver for the phone, the white one seemed to only have one ariel. You choose at checkout.

I admit I haven't revisited gimbal controllers since I bought a set up for a much bigger project a while ago, as soon as I find the box with those bits in I can see where I'm at but I think it's the same controller I've got.

I'm nearly finished redrawing the base, it might even be more suitable for your build if your fc doesn't fit the original, I'll post up my results soon.

Your getting close to finishing it :)
