Napo7's build
« on: April 18, 2018, 03:07:25 PM »
Hi !

Since a friend showed me his bebop 2, I have the idea of making a small "selfie drone".
I started by searching on thingiverse a foldable drone, and found the "other" mavic clone.
This one seems better to me, so I gathered some info on the forum, and let's go !

I've scavengered some parts on two old drones given by my friend (a 3DR Y6) : 20 A ESC, screws, wires, 820 Kv motors, etc...
Those motors didn't looked great to me, so I searched for motors with specifications close to mavic one's (regarding prop size).
I then ordered the remote control (FlySky i6), a small PPM receiver, a SP Racing F3 Deluxe board, 1400 kv motors, 2x 1500mA 3S batteries...
I have a GPS (neo 6M) lying in my electronics drawer... It will yet have an use !!

I modified the STLs to remove the sonar, I don't plan to use it.
I also modified the noze to close the front holes (don't know what they were for !!), and drilled new one for gimbal holding. I plan to put my xiaomi yi cam with a single axis servo gimbal (pitch only, more axis would take too much space). The cam is only 72g, with wifi range of about 50m. Should be enough for some holiday-family-selfies ;)

Last night have been printed top covers, 2 legs, some feet...
Now I'm printing the body and 2 other legs. Here is a small picture from my octoprint webcam !

I'm printing in ABS to save some weight, I'll make some better quality pics of the parts this evening !

Here is a global view of all printed parts.
The top front cover did wrapped a bit, I'll reprint it, I'll try another ABS print, and if it doesn't work I'll do it in PLA.

The parts actually weight 187grs ,
Here is my budget weight (I have to measure the ESCs, perhaps I'll change them later :)

1500mAh 3S battery : 115g
Racerstar BR2212 1400KV brushless motor : 52g x 4 = 208g
F3 controller : 6g
PDB : 7.5g
PPM receiver : <1g
20A esc : 20g x 4 = 80g
Ublox neo-6m GPS : 12g

> Total weight : 429g
> Plus body : 190g  = 619g.
I haven't added the props, the screws, but that should be fine !

A small follow-up :
I've reprinted the front top-cover, since the previous had curled while printing... This one is dead flat !

I've also measured my ESC : they are 25g each... wayy to much for me... I then ordered littleBee opto esc, which should be 4g each !
So my estimated weight has gone low : that's 16grs x 4 less, so 64grs less, which lead me to 555 grams !
This gives me some room for the gopro gimbal and some more flying time !

Some pictures of the assembled drone also !
I'm hesitating to paint it black...

You used the thingiverse version?
The first version (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1904276 ), or the wider body version? (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2004357
