New to RC - Mavic F3 build
« on: June 09, 2017, 12:08:36 AM »
Hi All,

I was amazed at the quality and attention to detail of the 3d models so I took the plunge and printed the parts for the Mavic F3.  I don't have any experience with RC model building but am keen to learn.   :D ;D :)

Where I come unstuck is the electronics :( , I found that the F3 controller listed is no longer available on Amazon.  I also looked for the black widow motors with no success :( , I have seen many struggle to find the spring plungers.  I have looked at many and do not know which version is the best for this project.  Any advice would be welcome as to what to buy as I am getting confused as to what I need to get the drone flying.

Additionally I don't have a controller, so any advice on that would also help  :D

Thanks,

Tef

Hello Tef, Welcome to the forum. Try to get the motors at Hobby king. Don't forget 1200KV. The F3 controller can be found at eBay for sure. For cabling from the motors I suggest you to use cable AWG 20 caliber because is easier to introduce into the conducts and require a tinier soldering on the power board. I hope this help

Tef,

Similar motors: https://www.banggood.com/4X-Racerstar-Racing-Edition-2205-BR2205-2300KV-2-4S-Brushless-Motor-Black-For-210-X220-250-280-p-1092790.html?rmmds=search

And for those motors, you'll have to find some ESC's, too. Something like https://www.banggood.com/4-PCS-Racerstar-RS30A-Lite-30A-Blheli_S-BB1-2-4S-Brushless-ESC-for-FPV-Racer-p-1101000.html?rmmds=detail-top-buytogether-auto

These are a few tabs I have open in Chrome right now, hope that helps some!

Here's a similar transmitter (remote) to what I already have and plan on using: https://www.banggood.com/FlySky-FS-i6-2_4G-6CH-AFHDS-RC-Transmitter-With-FS-iA6B-Receiver-p-983537.html?rmmds=search It also comes with a receiver in this case, but you can find smaller receivers like this one: https://www.banggood.com/Flysky-FS-A8S-2_4G-8CH-Mini-Receiver-with-PPM-i-BUS-SBUS-Output-p-1092861.html?rmmds=detail-top-buytogether

Tef,
Just remember that the Blck widow motors have the ESC integrated, so that's of big help to save space.

Starbuck.. the Naza32 cant run GPS / LED / Sonar it doesn't have enough memory on it being a 5 year old FC. You will need to go with something a bit later, either an F3 or F4.. or if you can afford it a Pixracer?   I made the same mistake and ordered one only to find out later.

Whoops, then I should stop calling it the Naze32. The actual banggood title is something like
Quote
F3 Flight Controller Acro 6 DOF/Deluxe 10 DOF for Multirotor Racing
My only other quadcopter build has been with a HobbyKing "KK-Mini Multi-Rotor Flight Control Board".

or if you can afford it a Pixracer?
I've already got a F3 FC laying around so I'm planning on using it.

I have a KK board somewhere.. awesome FC in it's day!  Loved how you could alter everything right then and there!

Thanks everyone, great information here.

Do I have to get the right Kv for the battery I will use? I take it this will limit flight time?  having an inbuilt ESC looks like a good idea for space, however the motor price is of course higher.

Is it possible to control the drone from a mobile or tablet?  If not I need to buy a radio system, which do you recomend I look at as the prices ranges greatly?

Many thanks,

Tef
