What you need to make Mavic Clone
« on: May 19, 2020, 08:12:41 PM »
Hi guis,
I'm glad I'm part of this community (I'm sorry for my english)

-I recently started printing this project, Mavic Clone F3, most of the pieces are already printed and I would initially like to do 2!
the first to be standard and the second one resized to 124%!
-I'm passionate about photography and that's why I need them,I read almost everything on the forum and noticed different opinions, it's not that I can't order the pieces, it's that I don't understand how they work!
-The area where i live, the orders arrive very late and the transport price is higher than the product price, and for that it is very difficult for me to fail with the orders, I want to be sure!

I hope that this topic will help as many people as possible in search of answers

-For starters what I need from the drone is to stay in the air as long as possible but to be able to carry a GoPro
>MOTORS what engine should I use? 2212 / 980kv or 2212 / 1400kv? what do you recommend?
>ESCI would like to use this

-I already have the propellers and the remote control, it's a devo 7
for the rest of the pieces I am undecided, can you help me with some tips? I want to order for them and complete the project
Thank a lot guis, this community is the best, I hope you like the project I will do, after I finish this project, I plan to change some things in the design of the drone!

Thanks a lot!

You should probably go with 30A ESC;
20a esc would not be enough, depending on the motors specifications;

Concerning the KV of motors, it also depends on the propeller you which to use, and the weight you want carry (go pro ...?)
If you want to do movies and photos better go with 980 or 920KV, but check the propellers size that goes with it

You could also use 3 blade propeller, i think it would give you more lift (but you need to double check this not sure)

In this section of the forum you will different builds with info about pieces;
but you need also: receiver (for the devo goes in the mavic), and the main thing, a flight controller  (the brain)
you could also add fpv (need video + transmitter tx)

ok, with those motors you can stay on a 20A esc;

for flight controller i would go for a F4, the one you pick is good, but it already have ESC (4in1 40A) so you don't need the 20A;
But carrefull it requiere a 4S lipo i think (hard to put in the mavic clone);
Also i don't think it has an integrated OSD (which is the thing to allow you to have data from your drone on your FPV video feed); one FC with OSD could be good

Depending on you FC, you will probably need Power distribution board (pdb)

for GPS dont go for NZ GPS, it's too old; take the other one, it's with m8N + compass (faster gps lock and compass is good)

for sonar, don't go with HC SR04 but with US100, its more or less the same but more reliable (inav and mission planner recommand going with US100)

the rest looks OK!

One last thing: depending on your flight controller, it could be complicated to have the
GPS + COMPASS + LED + SONAR

it sounds great:))) Thank you very much :D
so I could go with F4 but also with but also with an F3, what do you think about Ardupilot

I saw a lot of good reviews, could I go with it? does he need ESC?

Yes, F3 or F4, what is important is size of board, specially in this mavic clone, their is really no space ;)
I think the APM2.8 is good but a little bit old (my opinion), and probably too big for this build...
All board need ESC, they are here to give and regulate the power to your motors!

personaly, I use a Matek F405-CTR, you don't need a PDB, as it's includeded on the board, and you only need a 4in1 ESC
but i requieres soldering skills (pads to solder are small ;)

You could go with the mini pix (or pixhawk) no soldering (or almost) ,  or a lot of F4 board are working with ardupilot and mission planner (check their website on the hardware section)

hi
calculating flying time is not so easy, depends a lot on your way to fly
but with this kind of lipo i think you can expect 7-10 min but not really sure

What battery do you think would be good with modist flying would allow you to get closer to 20-30 mins of flight time?

at least a 4000mA lipo
BUT be careful, on this build / frame, the space for the lipo is very very small! i only manage to put 1300mah max
otherwise you would have to resize the frame to put a bigger lipo

i'm pretty sure their is not a chance it would feet!!

I didn't manage to get a 4s inside (to much height), only 3s, and 1500mah (lenght problem also)
