3d Printed Mavic Clone / Mini mavic ?
« on: March 07, 2017, 10:04:32 AM »
So.. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a Mini-Mavic, just something a little different, small and fpv only. More have a lets see what we can do with it.  I'm thinking it's going to be really small so might not even require folding legs..

Anyway, let me know what you think.  If you have any experience in electronics for a mini mavic and what to use.. motors / FC etc then please help :-)  I'm thinking something like a mini whoop but in a mavic body!

No designs as yet..

3d Printed Mavic Clone / Pixracer with GPS ordered :-)
« on: March 06, 2017, 11:57:10 AM »
Good news :-)

Well many thanks for the donations as they have paid for a pixracer flight controller so I can design this into the mavic :-) Enough users have requested this so I thought I better pull my finger out and get it done.

The cheapest I could find online was from a UK company.. links below;

Pixracer + PDB - 64.98

Link here

GPS to match - 24.99

Link here

Now, after reading this little FC seems a very capable little unit.. :-)

Should be here soon .. :-)

General RC Chitchat / Best transmitter under 100 ?
« on: March 05, 2017, 05:09:05 PM »
I'm thinking about getting a new transmitter and wondered what others are using. I currently have a Turnigy 9x with a FrSkyDJT module in the back but I would like something a bit newer.. and something that shows telemetry on the screen. So far I've only found the these other available which are below;

Turnigy TGY-i10 10ch 82.23

Turnigy Evolution Digital AFHDS 2A Radio Control System 62.27

FrSky Taranis Q X7 Digital Telemetry Radio System 85.82

Although the good thing about the turnigy is you can get a really cheap RX !
Turnigy iA6C PPM/SBUS Receiver 8CH 8.58

If I wanted to keep flying fix wing then I suppose the evolution is out (no trims).... what do you fly with ?

General RC Chitchat / DIYRC - T-Shirt
« on: March 04, 2017, 10:08:29 AM »
Morning all..

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a t-shirt?  I'm playing with a design at the moment so I can get one done for the video I'm doing (dont laugh), thought it would look more professional. lol

So, I've been playing around on Vistaprints website which I've got to say is quite good! I might get a few done and give them away.. will have to see.

Please comment on the design.. would love some feedback. :-)

On the front of the t-shirt it says Design, Build & Fly... and on the back everything..

let me know what you think...

3d Printed Mavic Clone / Adding spring action to the front legs?
« on: February 26, 2017, 09:57:25 PM »
Well, I managed to get a bit of air today... not much mind as the FC needs tuning which I'm on with but the front arms tend to move a little bit which obviously is not good.. So, I'm trying out an idea of an oval joint that uses the body to spring into place both in the open and closed position. It does mean new arms and middle body but I'm only testing at the moment.

Photo attached.. No idea about the rear legs yet!

3d Printed Mavic Clone / Mavic Clone 3D Files released
« on: February 26, 2017, 10:38:52 AM »
Hello,

Just letting you all know that I've released the 'iges' files for the Mavic Clone in the Downloads section. You will find two separate models, one for the Naza build and one for the F3. These files are for 3D CAD programs and not for normal printing.

They have been issued under the same license as before.

Many thanks,

Steve

3d Printed Mavic Clone / Mavic Clone with Naza
« on: February 22, 2017, 07:59:48 PM »
Just a bit of an update..

The good news is.. it WILL fit, but space is tight. I will be removing the plastic housing from the GPS puck and making a new nose section to hold it.. but other than this I think I'm nearly done. Initial tests show I have 2mm spare so I can also add a battery bottom to make it all look neat.

Couple of photos, hoping to get it released tomorrow evening.

3d Printed Mavic Clone / Mavic Clone STL Files Version 4.1 F3
« on: February 16, 2017, 06:23:41 PM »
PLEASE NOTE - THE STL FILES ARE IN THE DOWNLOAD SECTION. YOU NEED TO BE A MEMBER AND LOGGED IN TO SEE THIS SECTION

UPDATED TO 4.1 F3 .. 23rd April 2017 - added double plungers to front legs / shared parts with Naza build
(shared parts now are Top front, Middle, Nose, Gimbal holder)

UPDATED TO 4.0 F3 .. 8th March 2017 - Improved legs / added ball plungers

Added holes for the plungers in the base
Added 4mm ball holes in the middle + increased the thickness of the rear wings to 4mm
Added 7mm holes to the front arms & lowered the wire channel increasing the strength
Added 4mm dimples to the rear arms and lowered the wire channel increasing the strength
Removed the notch from the top

Build now updated with ball plungers which are 6mm wide x 7mm depth.  I purchased mine off eBay. They are part number GN614-6KD ( http://r.ebay.com/7qtSCD )

UPDATED TO 3.1 F3 .. 24th Feb 2017 - Improved top plates

Some details on the components used.

Copy Mavic props 8330 off eBay - 9 (hopefully I can print an adaptor plate)

WS2812B 2*2 4-Bit Full Color 5050 RGB LED off eBay - 2.50 (some indicator led's for the back I hope depending on the FC)

Multistar LiHV High Capacity 3000mAh 3S off Hobbyking - 14.79  (got two of these..)

Black Widow 2208 1200KV With Built-In ESC off Hobbyking - 12.21 each (on offer as these are V1 and V2 are now out.. however I think they will be fine.)  I went for these because of the built in ESC as space will be tight and they will help with any possible heat issues. I might however need to widen the holes in the legs... we shall see. (was 1800kv but swapped to 1200kv)

Deluxe SP Racing F3 Flight Controller 10DOF Integrated OSD - 22.00 from Amazon UK - http://amzn.eu/7hBUcDL

NZ Super Mini Ublox 7 GPS - 13 off ebay - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/DigitalCure

Mini 50A DalRC Power Distribution Board Hub PDB BEC - 4.25 ebay - http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RCTech-Store

FrSky DR4-II - 20 ish.. cant remember

You will also need some screws, bits of wire and lots and lots of luck ;-)

Diagram for wiring it all up

The build is quote straight forward, not that many body components really. I've posted some photos below which should help. :-)

Thanks,

Steve

General RC Chitchat / Donations received
« on: February 15, 2017, 04:13:30 PM »
This is a post to thank all those that have donated towards the running and upkeep of the site, components and beer money.

So, I big thank you to you all :-)

So far I've purchased a Naza M Lite for the Mavic, but I think I will use it in the next Inspire design too.

If you wouldn't mind including a message with your nickname on here then I can thank you personally. I intend to add a group confirming that you have donated.

Thanks,

Steve

General RC Chitchat / Inspire 2 Clone?
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:52:26 AM »
So.. I'm already thinking about whats next!

I would love to have another go at the inspire and improve the 1st clones design / build / weight etc..   To do this I think the only way would be to buy / borrow one so I can get all the dimensions spot on.  Are all the measurements the same on a I1 and I2?  I've not done any reading yet but would love the challenge.  Anyone else fancy getting involved?

General RC Chitchat / Banner required for the site
« on: February 08, 2017, 08:30:21 AM »
Hi All,

Would anyone like to design a banner for the site?  Something like 500 x 100 (ish) will do. Any photos on the site can be used, they don't even have to be mine!  :-)

Attached your banners below. If I get more than one then I'll add a random script so it changes them each time the page loads.

Thanks,

Steve
